Isaac Weld’s narrative of his extensive travels in North America to gather knowledge of life in North America. Weld traveled both in the United States and Canada. He arrived in Philadelphia in November 1795 then traveled to Baltimore, Washington, Alexandria, and Mount Vernon. He continued his journey to York and Lancaster, Northern Virginia, Williamsburg and Norfolk – then to Richmond and west to the Blue Mountains and along the Hudson River. Weld then traveled into and the Quebec area of Canada. According to Howes: W 235, Weld found Canada, its culture and the people to be more desirable than in the United States.
